Department of

Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery

Pediatrics Fellowship

Established in 1976, the Pediatric Otolaryngology Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

More than 30 graduates have gone on to academic positions and private practices. Many have achieved department head status, and most are significant contributors to the pediatric otolaryngology subspecialty.

Until 1995, the fellowship program lasted one year. We have increased the program's length to two years to allow for more research time.

The purpose of the training program is to provide a solid foundation for clinical care and research in pediatric otolaryngology. The training is oriented toward an academic career.

We hope to provide:
  • A well-rounded medical and surgical experience, including management of pediatric otologic disease, airway problems, nasal and sinus disease, as well as congenital inflammatory and neoplastic disorders of the head and neck.
  • Direct contact with clinical and basic research through development of research projects.
  • Teaching experience gained through resident and medical student programs, conferences, staff contact, etc.
  • Exposure to a variety of specialized clinic experiences, such as velopharyngeal insufficiency, hearing-impaired, functional endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, craniofacial problems and videostroboscopy.
  • An opportunity to enhance decision-making abilities in routine, complicated and urgent clinical situations.
