How to Apply

The UC Department of Ophthalmology offers four PGY2 residency positions each year through the San Francisco Match (SF Match). All applications should be submitted through the Central Application Service of the SF Match (CAS) as this is the only way they will be accepted.

In the 2018-2019 academic year, we added a new mandatory Internal Medicine Preliminary Year with a four-month Ophthalmology Concentration.

An application will be considered complete when all required documents are uploaded into CAS.

CAS application materials should include:

  • College transcript(s);
  • Medical school transcript(s);
  • ECFMG certificate (applicable to International Graduates);
  • USMLE transcript(s);
  • Three letters of Recommendation
  • Deans Letter (generally distributed directly to CAS by med school)

If you are an international medical graduate, please contact your local Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) office for more information.

Review of complete applications will begin in early September.  Interviews are by invitation only. There are three Interview dates this year. 11/20/19, 12/10/19, and 12/17/19. There is a pre-interview dinner with our current residents at an area restaurant the night prior to the interview. The dinner is not a required part of the interview.

For further information regarding the application or interview process, please contact Shari Kinnebrew, program coordinator, at 513-558-5158 or
