Internal Medicine Scholarly Training for Academic Research Fellowships

Greetings! For those of you considering an academic career in Medical Education, Outcomes Research or Basic/Translational Research, I urge you to consider our Internal Medicine Scholars Training for Academic Research (IMSTAR) pathways. In the competitive research world of today, expert mentoring and a smooth advancement into a faculty position after fellowship are vital to a trainee’s career success. The Department of Internal Medicine’s fellowship programs, specifically designed for trainees interested in an academic career, develop clinician educators, clinician researchers, and clinician scientists who are equipped to shape the future of academic medicine.

IMSTAR pathways offer 1 to 2 years as an Instructor on the faculty with up to 80% protected time dedicated to scholarly training in Medical Education (leading to a MEd degree), Outcomes Research, or Basic/Translational Research (leading to a MSc degree). We strongly encourage entry as early in training as possible into the relevant pathway of your choice.

The Department of Internal Medicine and the training program leaders are committed to your success and growth. I hope that you find the University of Cincinnati Medical Center a dynamic and attractive environment to begin to build your future and that you consider us when choosing the next step on your educational path.
