Education: The department is recognized as being the heartbeat of the medical school curriculum. Our overall mission is to integrate basic science and clinical science throughout all four years of medical school, with a changing emphasis of each over time (see figure).

Scholarship: With an interdisciplinary faculty, DME’s scholarship agendas include, among other areas, scholarship of teaching and learning, curriculum development, evaluation and assessment, and translational science.

Service: Department members serve on a variety of educational college committees including the Educational Policy Committee (EPC) and the M1/M2 Curriculum Committee. The DME also hosts and participates in faculty development workshops focusing on curriculum design and teaching.
